Action Item/Discussions
Diane reported that the
Worship Committee recommends that we always have a Lutheran Pastor or Seminary
Student fill in to conduct our service in the absence of our own Pastor. Bill
moved, with a second by Paul to rescind the motion passed last month for 3
Pastors and 2 Lay people to fill in. The
Committee agreed that this is the way we would be most comfortable. Approved.
Diane moved that we use
excess funds to hire Pastors as needed.
Jim seconded. Approved.
The Worship Committee has
recommended that we acquire an additional 20 Hymnals. The books cost $25, for a
total cost of $500. Diane made a motion
with a second by Paul that we campaign for the additional Hymnals for Fall
usage supplemented by a budget request if needed. Motion was Approved.
Diane requested that we
have 60 Bulletins printed each Sunday, with more possible for special
events. Zach made a motion with a second
from Becky that we have 60 Bulletins printed and pay for them if that’s what is
required. Approved.
Nancy informed the
committee that Lord of Love has been invited by Westminster Presbyterian Church
to explore the feasibility of sharing space with them. The entire committee liked the idea and
Joyce, Jim and Becky volunteered to meet with them. Diane made a motion with a
second by Duane that a committee of the three volunteers be formed to pursue
this further. Approved.
Nancy will contact Pastor
Nordby to make sure this will be allowed.
Duane made a motion that
we budget adequately next year for Pulpit Supply. Paul seconded the motion. Approved.
Nancy suggested that a
copy of the Pastor’s Monthly Report to the Synod be sent to the Steering
Committee. Bill made a motion with a second by Diane that the request be made
to Pastor Hill.
Approved.
There will be no Adult
Education over the Summer. Jim informed
the committee that he is looking for a Summer Social Event. There are tentative plans to have a Service
at Murphy’s Gardens on the Sunday after Labor Day.
Fall plans will be
discussed next month.
A written follow up was
presented regarding the Retreat.
It was decided to wait
until after the Territory Garage Sale to see if an offering was needed to
supplement the Mission Trip.
Treasurer’s Report
Duane submitted a written
report and asked that we remember the budgeting process for the upcoming year. Bill made a motion and Becky seconded that the
Treasurer’s Report be approved.
Approved. Duane also pointed out
a Lord of Love Ad in the Galenian which he felt was an unnecessary
expense. Zach made a motion with a
second by Diane that we do not purchase this Ad in the future. Approved.
Committee Reports
Deferred because of
length of meeting.
New Business
Bill made a motion with a
second by Jim that Lord of Love sponsors a hole at the Midwest Medical Golf
Outing on July 14th. The cost
is $250. Approved.
Zach brought it to the
attention of the Steering Committee that an Ad was placed in the Galena Gazette
offering the services of our Youth Group (God Jobs). All agreed that this was not a good idea. A
